Good afternoon Coalville,
As we move into the darker months of the year, I would like to remind residents of a few simple steps that can help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.
Unfortunately, reduced daylight hours can create opportunities for offenders, particularly in relation to burglary, theft from vehicles, and anti-social behaviour. Taking a few preventative measures can make a significant difference.
Home Security - Ensure doors and windows are locked whenever you leave your property, even for a short time. Use timer switches on lamps to give the impression that someone is at home. Consider installing motion-activated security lighting and CCTV where appropriate. Keep valuables out of sight from windows.
Vehicle Security - Remove all valuables from your vehicle or keep them hidden from view. Lock your vehicle and ensure all windows are fully closed. Park in well-lit areas whenever possible.
Personal Safety - Plan routes in well-lit areas when walking during the evening. Remain aware of your surroundings and avoid distractions such as mobile phones where possible. Consider carrying a torch when walking in poorly lit areas.
Report Concerns - If you witness suspicious activity or have concerns about crime or anti-social behaviour in your area, please report it. Information provided by members of the public helps us identify issues and direct patrols where they are most needed.
For non-emergency matters, please report online or call 101. In an emergency, where a crime is in progress or there is an immediate risk to life, always call 999.
By working together and taking simple precautions, we can help keep our communities safe throughout the darker evenings and winter months.
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards, PCSO Suffolk 6387 Police Community Support Officer | ||
